About the Vessel
Phantom was a 19th-century New York pilot. She and her sister ship Pet (No.9) were considered models for their type with a reputation for being very fast. In 1886, she helped resue passengers on the sinking SS Oregon. She herself was lost with all hands during the Great Blizzard of 1888.
