This is a model of a bomb vessel. Note the mortar located on the centerline forward of the mainmast.
Webmasters note: The model is possibly misnamed or simply representative of the type. I could find no record of a bomb vessel named “Lion’s Whelp”, but a number of ships and sloops by that name exist. They all appear to be much older than the vessel depicted here.
