About the Vessel

Nashville was launched on 19 October 1895 by Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, Newport News, Virginia. She fired the first shots of the Spanish-American war and performed escort duty in the Mediterranean during World War I. Between these two wars she took part in countering various foreign insurgencies and protecting American interest abroad.
