The master shipwright G.C. Peckelhering built the Grosse Jacht (also called “Golden Yacht”) in Kolberg in 1678-1679. It served as a prototype for the construction of other ships for Prince William III of Orange.
Oliver Cromwell was the largest ship in the Connecticut State Navy from her launch on 13 Jun, 1776, until the British Royal Navy captured her in a battle off the coast of Sandy Hook, New Jersey.
Using a spar torpedo mounted on Picket Boat No.1, Lt. William Cushing and his crew succeeded in sinking CSS Albemarle at Plymouth, North Carolina, on the night of 27 October 1864.
