About the Vessel

Webmaster Note:
This Mantua / Panart kit states the vessel was built around 1690, mounted over 100 guns, and was sunk in a battle fought in 1705. It cites these details while acknowledging a lack of credible historical data. Other (admittedly second-hand) sources show no vessel of that size existing before 1732, at which time the Real Felipe (a similar name) of 114 guns was built. Another ship of 90-94 guns named the Nuestra Señora de la Concepcion y las Animas was launched in 1687, nearer the supposed date of San Felipe and of nearly as many guns. She did end her service in 1705, but was reportedly broken up to repair other ships, rather than having been sunk.
