I am in the process of organizing a messy shop (mine). Among the many things that need to be tidied up is an array of sanding sheets that I have either purchased from vendors or as part of auction lots (from donations to the ship model club).
I’ve had a problem with the sheets curling. I intend to put them in hanging file folders. My cabinet has an adjustable follower-plate that can be used to keep the sheets relatively flat.
To file them in order, they need to be sorted by grit size. I found discrepancies while looking for a comparison chart online. Instead of ANSI-FEPA or FEPA-ANSI charts, I searched out the specifications for each standard. I searched for sources that are reliable as possible for free online content. With the sizes for each standard, I created my own chart based on my own arbitrary but reasonable criteria. I identified the nearest grit size within the limits of 5% coarser and 10% finer, using Excel spreadsheet formulas for accuracy/consistency.
