This is a hierarchical list. Please select the most specific applicable categories. It is no longer necessary to select all antecedents for the sake of searches. If you only select “Paint” and someone searches for “Finishing”, the vendor will be included in the results. Prior to June 2026, this was not the case.

Exceptions are needed for the general guideline above. For a company such as Micro-Mark, it is debatable whether or not to include every detailed offering. There could be dozens of entries for hand tools alone. This is a large burden for the person entering the data, and as offerings are added and removed, it becomes a maintenance burden as well. So you will be excused for stopping at “Hand Tools” (in addition to other broad categories such as “Power Tools”, “Finishing”, etc.). The finer detail would certainly be appropriate for companies that specialize. For instance, a company that sells only drill bits would need “Drill Bits” to be selected. The down-side of not specifying drill bits for Micro-Mark is that Micro-Mark would not appear in a search specifically for “Drill Bits”. This is a quandary. So, if you wish to take the time to check all the detailed boxes, this is fine as well.
