About the Vessel

Aries is one of 6 Pegasus-class hydrofoils. The class was intended to be operated by several NATO countries in the North Sea and Baltic Sea to counter Warsaw Pact missile boats. As other countries cancelled their participation, the US Navy (with pressure from Congress) proceeded to procure 6 boats. In place of their original intent, these were used mainly for drug interdiction in the Caribbean.

They were all decommissioned in 1993. All have been scrapped, apart from Aries, which is part of a hydrofoil museum.
