About the Model

This is a Corel kit with the following modifications –

  • deck furniture and second planking from mahogany
  • a single plank ship’s boat
  • scratch built tops
  • kit’s rigging plan enhanced to add
    • upper and lower catharpins
    • jeers to the main yards of each mast
    • bowlines to each yard
    • mizzen topmast stays
    • fore topmast stays
    • spritsail topmast backstays

About the Vessel

La Couronne was the first major warship built by the French themselves after a series of ships had been designed and built for them by the Dutch. Since it was scrapped after just seven years, this suggests to me that it had some serious deficiencies, but was a valuable learning experience.
