Susan Constant was the largest of three ships of the English Virginia Company that were led by Captain Christopher Newport, resulting in the founding of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America.
A replica of Susan Constant and other members of the Christopher Newport fleet, Godspeed and the Discovery, are docked at Jamestown Settlement.
The city of Newport News was named after Captain Christopher Newport. Both Jamestown and Newport News are in the heart of the region from which the Hampton Roads Ship Model Society draws its members.
